Personal:
Matt’s family consists of his wife, Holly, who also attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, their son, Jackson, and daughter, Riley. They are active members of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock where Matt serves on the Mission Board. He also keeps busy with charitable activities, participating in such efforts as the Center for Arkansas Legal Services (CALS) (www.arlegalservices.org), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing free legal representation to low-income Arkansans. Matt is co-founder and Vice-President (Former President) of the Board of Directors for Harmony Health Clinic (www.harmonyclinicar.org), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing free medical and dental care to low-income, uninsured Arkansans living or working in Pulaski County.
Hobbies:
With a busy law practice and a busier young family, Matt’s schedule does not leave much room for goofing off. However, when he has some free time Matt enjoys the outdoors, exercising, traveling, reading, tailgating at Arkansas Razorback football games, and participating on a barbecue team which has won multiple trophies over the years cooking baby back ribs in the amateur division of the annual Memphis In May World Championship Barbecue Contest.
Matt’s thoughts on the practice of law:
“While the lawyer cannot change the underlying facts or events in a given case, they can impact the final result through long hours and old-fashioned hard work---striving to out-work, out-prepare, out-research, and out-organize the other side. Hard work in a case with a good set of facts can often achieve better results than originally anticipated. Hard work in a case with a bad set of facts can often have the effect of leveling the playing field, thereby also achieving better results than originally anticipated. Absent settlement the final outcome in a litigated matter is ultimately determined by a judge or jury, but hard work and long hours can without question influence that outcome.”
